Living in St. Augustine is living amidst history. St. Augustine is the oldest continuously occupied European-established city and port in the continental United States, first established in 1565 by Pedro Menendez de Aviles.

The city has a thriving tourist trade, and is visited by over three million visitors a year. It is also the home of Flagler College, a private liberal arts school housed in the former Ponce de Leon Hotel, built by Henry Flagler in the late 19th Century.

Denizens of St. Augustine can choose to live in the busy historic district, or in a nearby restored 19th or early 20th Century home on a cobblestone street. Anastasia Island, across the bay from St. Augustine and fronting on the Atlantic Ocean, offers everything from beachfront living to condominiums to secluded homes on the Intracoastal Waterway.

St. Augustine is known by locals for its variety of high quality restaurants, eclectic shops, and Christmas light shows.

South St. Johns County is largely rural, and boasts ranches, farms, and large acreage home sites.
